Large scale AEM survey in southern Italy underway

Andrea Viezzoli | Tuesday, 29 November 2011

Hi all,

Aarhus Geophysics Aps is pleased to announce that a large scale Ariborne ElectroMagnetic (AEM) survey will be underway soon in Sicily, in a project aiming at mapping shallow geothermal potential, in which Aarhus Geophysics will play a major role. The data acquisition (SkyTEM) will begin in early November, and it expected to take about 5 weeks to complete. Two areas will be covered, for a total of about 5000 line km: the largest one will cross Western Sicily, from South to North, between Sciacca and Alcamo, and will be surveyed at coarse line spacing first, while the second one, at higher lateral resolution, will be located to the South of Termini Imerese. Data will be processed and inverted preliminarily by Aarhus Geophysics in the field, in near real time. This will allow extra QC on the data, checking that the goal of the survey will be achieved. It will also allow to decide, based on preliminary inversion results, where to place some 1000 line km that will be used as in fills over selected portion of the first area, where the a priori geological knowledge is particualrly scarce. We will then conduct detailed processing and inversion with a priori information from, e.g.,seismic, in the office for the final, refined interpretation.

All these activities are related to the Project VIGOR (http://www.vigor-geotermia.it/)  lead by C.N.R. (Italian National Research Council), which aims at establishing the geothermal potential of different areas of southern Italy. It is expected that the AEM will provide important information on geology, hydrogoelogy and shallow geothermal resources. We will keep you posted on the progress of this interesting project.

We would also like to take the chance to draw your attention to the latest paper we contributed to, titled: “Understanding the hydrogeology of the Venice Lagoon subsurface with airborne electromagnetics”, by Teatini et al., recently published on Journal of Hydrogeology.

It is all for now

Best Regards

Worksphop on AEM applied to GW -Geoitalia, Turin, Sept 19

Andrea Viezzoli | Wednesday, 15 June 2011

Hi all,

We would like to inform you about the upcoming workshop W 11 – Airborne electromagnetic methods for large scale groundwater mapping and management- to be held at Geoitalia 2011, in Turin, on September 19th. See the website of the event for further details about this leading conference http://www.geoitalia.org/index.php?action=folder_list&folder_id=214, and for a detailed program of the workshop. Here we anticipate the abstract:

"...The workshop present the opportunity to get up to date with a very effective geophysical technique for groundwater mapping and management: the airborne electromagnetics (AEM) methodology. Starting form the applicability of ground geophysics to hydrogeology, we are then going airborne. The workshop will cover AEM's state of the art, both at hardware and software level, its applicability to different hydrogeological targets, its role in groundwater management around the world, its integration with ancillary information to produce hydrogeological models. There workshop is interactive, with plenty of time for discussions, and comprises parts of live demo using Aarhus Workbench software that will illustrating different aspects, e.g., data processing or building conceptual geological models, using real AEM data from selected locations..."

You can register to the workshop, and to the entire conference, from the Geoitalia website.

See you there !

Apply here for free processing of AEM data for hydrocarbons ...

Andrea Viezzoli | Wednesday, 27 April 2011

Hi all
Aarhus Geophysics is happy to announce a new initiative to promote our services. We want to showcase our expertises in modelling of Airborne EM to potential future clients in selected sectors, using their own Airborne EM data.

Hence, we start by offering up to 200 line-km of free processing and inversion of Helicopter TEM data, for 1 project falling into one of these categories:

1) Unconventional hydrocarbons exploration
2) Uranium exploration in sedimentary environments
3) Groundwater mapping
4) Geotechinical applications

The Processing and Inversion will be carried out by Aahrus Geophysics's personnel, to the highest standards, using the Aarhus Workbench. We can also use the Spatially Constrained Inversion to incorporate some relevant a-priori information, if present.

What we ask from you is:
1) the will to share with us, in confidence, all the information you have on the data, and the relevant ancillary information present, so that we can carry out the task to the best of our possibilities,
2) to provide all relevant data in suitable formats,
3) to be open about letting us use some of the results either for papers or for our website, even though we realize the need not to disclose any sensitive information,
4) to share with us if and how our work improved your geological or hydrogeological models, or your confidence in picking your targets.

We ask all interested parties to submit an application in writing to info@aarhusgeo.com before May 31st, describing breifly:
1) the location and type of project and its goal,
2) the type of AEM data (instrument, year of acquisition) and the level to which they have been processed or modelled so far,
3) the type of ancillary information available,
4) the reason for applying to the call.

In this round, preference will be given to new clients with data from North America, even though everybody is free to apply. Other rounds of call for different geographical areas will follow. We reserve the right to define and select the most interesting project. Upon acceptance, the processing and inversion will be carried out in due time, and delivered to the applicant in different digital formats. As mentioned, we would like to be able to show some of the results.

We hope to have plenty of interesting applications. For any question, please write to info@aarhusgeo.com. Remember also to check out our website www.aarhusgeo.com.

Let me also take the chance to invite those of you who will be attending the upcoming CSPG CSEG CWLS "Recovery" convention, held in Calgary May 9-13, to come and visit us at our booth (number 647). It could be the opportunity to discuss your AEM project, or to let us show you our software. See you soon.

Best Regards

Webinar on Inversion of AEM data, March 24th

Andrea Viezzoli | Tuesday, 8 March 2011

Hi,

After the succes of our webinar of February 22nd, which was attended by 12 people from 3 continents, we are ready to start taking expressions of interest for the second one, scheduled for March 24th. It is the second of a series of 3 webinars, which ideally form a continuum, taking you from AEM system description and raw data input, to the final report maps. Attending all of them would allow you to follow the entire workflow, and give you an idea of how we approach AEM data processing at Aarhus Geophsyics. However, we will also cater for people that sign up to just one of them. Do not miss the chance to learn how we process AEM data (also your next survey, if you want us to), and to get acquainted with the software tools that you could use yourself to obtain great results.

The second webinar "Inversion of AEM data in the Aarhus Workbench" is scheduled for March 24th. The 2 time slots available are either at 09:30, or at 16:00 CET. This webinar shows how to set up a constrained smooth and blocky inversion and how to evaluate the output.

The last webinar "Inversion results manipulation and display in the Aarhus Workbench" is scheduled for April 28th. The 2 time slots available are either at 08:30, or at 16:00 CET. Here the focus is on the functionalities of the GIS modules of the software, which allow producing different thematic maps, depth slices, profiles, etc...

Each webinar is meant to last a couple of hours. If you are interested in attending any of them, or have any query, please write to webinar@aarhusgeo.com. If you do want to sign up, remember to indicate the title and the preferred time slot. We will try to accomodate all requests.

It is all for now, but stay tuned also for another upcoming series of Short Webinars,·which will focus on just one particualr feature of a given module of the Aarhus Software world.

Best Regards
