| Large scale AEM survey in southern Italy underway |
|
Hi all, Aarhus Geophysics Aps is pleased to announce that a large scale Ariborne ElectroMagnetic (AEM) survey will be underway soon in Sicily, in a project aiming at mapping shallow geothermal potential, in which Aarhus Geophysics will play a major role. The data acquisition (SkyTEM) will begin in early November, and it expected to take about 5 weeks to complete. Two areas will be covered, for a total of about 5000 line km: the largest one will cross Western Sicily, from South to North, between Sciacca and Alcamo, and will be surveyed at coarse line spacing first, while the second one, at higher lateral resolution, will be located to the South of Termini Imerese. Data will be processed and inverted preliminarily by Aarhus Geophysics in the field, in near real time. This will allow extra QC on the data, checking that the goal of the survey will be achieved. It will also allow to decide, based on preliminary inversion results, where to place some 1000 line km that will be used as in fills over selected portion of the first area, where the a priori geological knowledge is particualrly scarce. We will then conduct detailed processing and inversion with a priori information from, e.g.,seismic, in the office for the final, refined interpretation. All these activities are related to the Project VIGOR (http://www.vigor-geotermia.it/) lead by C.N.R. (Italian National Research Council), which aims at establishing the geothermal potential of different areas of southern Italy. It is expected that the AEM will provide important information on geology, hydrogoelogy and shallow geothermal resources. We will keep you posted on the progress of this interesting project. We would also like to take the chance to draw your attention to the latest paper we contributed to, titled: “Understanding the hydrogeology of the Venice Lagoon subsurface with airborne electromagnetics”, by Teatini et al., recently published on Journal of Hydrogeology. It is all for now Best Regards |
